CPR & Choking
CPR & Choking
Anywhere access to video refreshers
This spring I was approached by Dr. Mickey Eisenberg to write an iPhone/iPod touch application that would let people view video demonstrations of lifesaving CPR and choking aid techniques. Having spent years developing Automated External Defibrillators for lay people to use, equipping the everyday public with tools they can use to perhaps save a life is one of my personal missions... this request got an automatic “absolutely!”.
The CPR•Choking app presents seven short (1 minute or less) video demonstrations covering the basics of CPR and choking assistance for adults, children and infants. It works on the iPod touch as well as on the iPhone. The videos were produced with the assistance of the University of Washington, the Life Sciences Discovery Fund, the Medic One Foundation, King County Emergency Medical Services, the Seattle Fire Department and the Laerdal Foundation for Acute Medicine. They comply with the recommendations set forth by the major international resuscitation organizations. These demonstrations cannot substitute for formal training, and if you would like to obtain training you should contact your local EMS, the Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or your employer for qualified sources.
So, download the app. And when you have a spare moment on the bus or waiting at the checkstand, review your training. You never know, maybe someone who sees you doing your review will get curious, get trained, and perhaps one day be able to help someone else.
More information on CPR and choking assistance can be found at Learn CPR.
Review your training.
Because you just
never know...
You have been trained to help save a life...
Take a moment to review your training. It’s free.
